A Czech writer with enormous talent, Milan Kundera is the author I never would've read. Assigned to read him in a senior English colloquium class at Davidson, I skipped over the assignment. I had far too many other books to read that week.
After the colloquium class was finished, I still had Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being lying around my apartment. I picked it up on Christmas break and did not put it down. I walked into my roomate's room and demanded she read it as well. We both fell in love. And consequently bought all the other books he has written. But it's nothing like the extreme joy of finding an outstanding author right in front of your face, reading the book...and feeling like he's entered your mind. |
